Description:
My time at Viken Detection was primarily spent on the development of the HBI Nighthawk hand-held X-ray scanner, and the Osprey UVX vehicle scanner. These devices are commonly used by law enforcement and boarder patrol to mitigate he risk of contraband entering the USA.
I spent my internship developing various parts to these devices, equipment for testing, and prototyping new designs to improve the product. This included materials research for operation in warm climates, preventing overheating within the devices electronics, and development of lead-walled testing rooms for X-Ray trials.
As it is today, everything at Viken was under one roof. This gave me tremendous insight into what it takes to run a mechanical engineering hardware start-up. This experience was invaluable in my journey as a young engineer, as seeing all aspects of the business proved that the intersection of entrepreneurship and engineering was where I was meant to direct my career.
